F+S BEGAN in 2007 as a semi-regular blog on the random things interesting to me. Since then it’s morphed into a sometimes long form topical and wide-ranging discussion of the world: from politics to pop-culture. My name is Vaughn Shirley, I grew up in Southern California and American bases in the Pacific, and this is for all intents and purposes an updating body of documents of things I’ve come across and want to share. I also run a security-focused blog which attempts to aggregate geopolitical and crisis information and a lighter blog which is a nostalgic look back into professional basketball’s more recent past and the media culture that encircles it. Both are better defined below.

The Tear Line

Globally-focused blog on government, crises and the geopolitical. Its special interest is the realm of covert affairs and the culling of open-source information on all manner of things related to security and its emerging issues. It also has a penchant for covering the surrounding milieu of those things mentioned, and which reside in the popular culture.

Searching For Harold Miner

A vestige of my childhood fascination for a particular Southern California player who, for a brief moment, became the “Next Michael Jordan.” I talk about my deep love affair with basketball here.
